Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a sophisticated approach to healing for the prevention and treatment of illnesses that includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, tui na (therapeutic massage), qi gong, tai chi and dietary counseling. TCM has been practiced in Asia for over 5000 years and serves 2 billion people worldwide.

Acupuncture treatments use thin, stainless steel needles to stimulate points on the surface of the body located along meridians through which energy or Qi circulates in the body. Qi, thought to nourish internal organs and tissues, can alter neural impulses that travel through the body to elicit beneficial responses. Through stimulating the bodies inherent self healing mechanism and balancing the flow of qi, acupuncture can relieve pain, reduce stress and restore health.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine has been practiced for over 5000 years. This ancient Taoist philosophy views a person as an energy system in which the body and mind are connected. In Chinese medicine, the emphasis is on preventing illness and treating the root cause of each health condition.

Our Chinese Medicine Doctors and Herbalists are trained in herbal therapy from the Materia Medica, a classic book of Chinese herbal formulas compiled from 206 B.C. to the late 16th century. Our herbal dispensary includes liquid extract herbs called tinctures, prepared herbal formulas in capsules or granules, and Dr. Yang’s specially created Chinese herbal formula line, Revive Qi Formulations.

At Revive Qi, we prescribe traditional Chinese herbal formulas and customized herbal prescriptions that suit the health needs of our patients. These formulas contain plant elements, minerals, and other natural ingredients and work synergistically with your acupuncture treatment.

Fire Cupping

Cupping therapy utilizes flame-induced suction cups to remove stagnation and toxins from your body. By promoting blood flow to large areas of the body including one’s back, neck, shoulders, and extremities, cupping can reduce pain and inflammation and bring back proper blood flow and circulation to arthritic muscles, tendons, and sinews.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion or Moxa is a traditional Chinese Medicine treatment that uses the heat generated by burning herbal preparations containing Artemisia vulgaris or Ai Ye and bringing it close to the skin to stimulate and warm acupuncture points.

Moxa has a warm property and according to the principles of Chinese medicine, is said to penetrate to the channel level, promote circulation of qi and blood in the channels, and to move qi and blood stasis. While moxibustion can be used as an independent modality, it is commonly combined with acupuncture to enhance its therapeutic effect. Moxa is commonly used for the treatment of pain, menstrual cramping, infertility, threatened miscarriage, breech pregnancies, digestion issues, immunity issues, common colds, and cough and asthma.

Esoteric Acupuncture

Esoteric acupuncture is a unique practice of acupuncture that was created by Dr. Mikio Sankey, L.Ac., Ph.D that enhances the energy flow through the chakras, vital points in your body to promote physical, emotional and spiritual balance. By increasing energy flow through these vital points, physical, emotional and spiritual blockages are resolved allowing patients to connect with their heart and their healing process. Esoteric Acupuncture is ideal for patients who experience depression, anxiety, overwhelming stress, or a lack of purpose in life. For those who desire a deeper level of healing and wellness beyond simply treating their physical imbalances, Esoteric Acupuncture is recommended to achieve optimal health and overall balance of the body, mind and spirit.
